John Winzeler Honored at Manufacturing Expo
This year I was was one of five honorees at the Manufacturing Expo held at Oakton Community College, recognized for our contributions and support of the Expo.
Oakton Community College, in partnership with NSERVE, a career and technical consortium of nine high schools in the northern Chicago suburbs, with the support of the Tooling and Manufacturing Association, Illinois Manufacturing Association, North Shore Community Bank, and over 50 local manufacturers, has put on a Manufacturing Expo every year since 2008. Since that time over 2,000 students have benefited from these experiences.
The expo has workshops, speakers, and tours of local manufacturers. Winzeler Gear has been involved with Manufacturing Expo for many years. On March 20th, 450 students from Niles, Evanston, New Trier, Maine, and Glenbrook explored manufacturing careers for a day. Winzeler Gear hosted students from Niles West and New Trier.
This year’s kick-off event included remarks from U.S. Congressman, Brad Schneider (IL-10). The honorees recognized at the event in addition to Winzeler Gear were Terry Iverson, Iverson, and Company; John Rubeo, Woodward; and Mark Glennerster and Tara Kandra, John Crane. Winzeler Gear was honored specifically for our many years of involvement with Oakton Community College and manufacturing career awareness.
Winzeler Gear has long recognized the need for a strong education foundation and the need for qualified individuals in manufacturing. In addition to our involvement with Oakton Community College, we are also a manufacturing partner with Austin Polytechnical Academy in Chicago, one of over 60 companies committing time and resources to help students graduate with real-world skills.
